چکیده

Title of Dissertation: THE IMPACT OF MODEL SELECTION ON LOGLINEAR ANALYSIS OF CONTINGENCY TABLES Jing Gao, Doctor of Philosophy, 2009 Dissertation directed by: Professor C. Mitchell Dayton Department of Measurement, Statistics and Evaluation It is common practice for researchers in the social sciences and education to use model selection techniques to search for best fitting models and to carry out inference as if these models were given a priori. This study examined the effect of model selection on inference in the framework of loglinear modeling. The purposes were to (i) examine the consequences when the behavior of model selection is ignored; and (ii) investigate the performance of the estimator provided by the Bayesian model averaging method and evaluate the usefulness of the multi-model inference as opposed to the single model

Independence in Multi-Way Contingency Tables: S. N. Roy’s Breakthroughs and Later Developments

In the mid 1950s S. N. Roy and his students contributed two landmark articles to the contingency table literature (Roy and Kastenbaum 1956, Roy and Mitra 1956). The first article generalized concepts of interaction from 2×2×2 contingency tables to three-way tables of arbitrary size and to larger tables. In the second article, which is the source of our primary focus, various notions of independ...

Plain Answers to Several Questions about Association/Independence Structure in Complete/Incomplete Contingency Tables

In this paper, we develop some results based on Relational model (Klimova, et al. 2012) which permits a decomposition of logarithm of expected cell frequencies under a log-linear type model. These results imply plain answers to several questions in the context of analyzing of contingency tables. Moreover, determination of design matrix and hypothesis-induced matrix of the model will be discusse...

Discrete Data Analysis with R : Visualization and Modeling Techniques for Categorical and Count Data (

This book makes a very useful contribution by focusing on graphical methods for portraying discrete data and the results of fitting models to such data. Existing books on the analysis of discrete data pay relatively little attention to graphics. This book’s main emphasis is on categorical data and logistic and loglinear models for them, but two chapters deal with count data, including dealing w...

Analysis of Dynamic Longitudinal Categorical Data in Incomplete Contingency Tables Using Capture-Recapture Sampling: A case Study of Semi-Concentrated Doctoral Exam

Abstract. In this paper, dynamic longitudinal categorical data and estimation of their parameters in incomplete contingency tables are evaluated. To apply the proposed method, a study has been conducted on the data of the semi-concentrated doctoral exam of the National Organization for Educational Testing (NOET). The results of studies such as the obtained confidence intervals and calculating t...

A conjugate prior for discrete hierarchical loglinear models

In Bayesian analysis of multi-way contingency tables, the selection of a prior distribution for either the log-linear parameters or the cell probabilities parameters is a major challenge. In this paper, we define a flexible family of conjugate priors for the wide class of discrete hierarchical log-linear models, which includes the class of graphical models. These priors are defined as the Diaco...
